People learn well—often best—in groups, but creating cooperative learning experiences in class can be a challenge. The success of team-based, in-class learning in TILE and other courses underscores a growing interest in creative strategies for structuring, facilitating, and assessing cooperative learning opportunities. Dr. Karl Smith will lead an interactive workshop that models several of these creative approaches to learning together.
Karl Smith is the Cooperative Learning Professor of Engineering Education at Purdue University and Emeritus Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Minnesota. His scholarly work focuses on cooperative learning, problem-based learning, and constructive controversy.
