About Carol Coohey

For almost 20 years, Professor Coohey has used her practice knowledge to conduct research in the child welfare field. Her most recent research has focused on (a) protective factors that moderate the relationship between child maltreatment and variety of adverse outcomes, including behavioral problems among adolescents and mental health problems among adults; (b) how child protective services investigators make decisions in cases involving child sexual abuse or domestic violence; and (c) the etiology, consequences, and chronicity of child neglect. Professor Coohey regularly publishes her scholarship in leading social work and social science journals and serves on editorial boards, including Child Abuse & Neglect and Social Service Review. She is director of the PhD program, and teaches research and practice courses.
