Associate Professor Jon Winet is a New Media artist and researcher. In 2002 he joined the Intermedia Program in the School of Art and Art History at The University of Iowa. In 2006 he was appointed director of the Experimental Wing of The University of Iowa Writing University. He is also a member of the faculty of International Programs.
He currently directs The University of Iowa UNESCO City of Literature Mobile Application Development Team, an interdisciplinary public digital humanities research initiative focusing on Iowa City’s rich and active literary culture. In October 2010 the team launched "City of Lit," an app for Apple mobile devices.
He is also in preproduction of First in the Nation, a documentary project on the run-up to the 2012 U.S. Presidential Election Iowa Caucuses, the latest in a series of collaborative projects revolving around politics, art, language, and image in the Information Age.
In 2007, he received The University of Iowa’s President's Award for State Outreach and Public Engagement for his work with Iowa City Senior Center Television and Intermedia Artists in Community, a seminar he leads each spring that places students in semester-long internships in Iowa City non-profit social service agencies.
