Miwa Matsuo obtained her Doctor of Design degree at Harvard Design School in 2008 and Joined the University of Iowa from 2009. Her research interests are in transportation and land use relationships, transportation policy, economic geography, and sustainability. Miwa has been exploring economic geography and accessibility in large metropolitan areas. She is also working on freight connectivity between U.S. states and Canadian provinces and accessibility issues of rural minorities. She teaches planning methods, geographic information systems, and transportation and land use planning. Her class employs lots of case studies, in-class discussions, and hands-on practices to develop understandings about the subjects.
